The Goo Goo Dolls In Ottawa

Concert ReviewFebruary 20, 2011Pop Champagne

When someone ask me the 3 things I would bring if I was stuck on a deserted island my answer is and has always been "Goo Goo Dolls, their guitars, and a bottle of tequila" - I've been in love with the Goo Goo Dolls since 1997 and really, if I am in that situation, I will die regardless to what I bring anyways.

After harassing BOBFM numerous times and Al probably rolled his eyes so much that his contacts popped out, it was nice that he eventually invited me a private lunch time performance at CTV Ottawa studio on Friday. Unfortunately Johnny Rzeznik was absent from being sick. Since they were in Montreal the day before it's probably from watching too much French dubbed English TV shows- it's understandable, as watching those dubbed shows always make me vomit a little in my mouth. It was still extremely nice to meet and watch Robby and Mike perform from 2 feet away.

The Goo Goo Dolls put on an amazing performance that night at the NAC despite Johnny Rzeznik not feeling well. It was such an experience to hear songs you grew up with live and to sing along to every song- even all the new ones such as "Sweetest Lie", "As I Am" and "Notbroken" (I'm that much of a hardcore fan!). Hearing songs live such as "Black Balloon" and "Here is Gone" made me teared a little as they helped me through some rough times. It was an experience I wouldn't trade for anything.

Johnny also looked great and glowing like there's a Johnny at the end of every rainbow. You know the world will stop spinning if he change his hair or stop performing. Johnny can capture the essence of my charred grinchy soul just by waving in my direction. And if Johnny ever need a full-time servant to lick off his phlegm on stage, I will be the first to submit my "Goo phlegm licker" job application and when I get that job, I will permanently change my blog name to "LickerOfJohnnyRzezniksPhlegm Champagne" and maybe even tattoo that on my forehead.

Special thanks to Al and Milky from BOBFM for making my dream come true and of course the Goo Goo Dolls for a great show.
