The Goo Goo Dolls’ Magnetic

Hello Beautiful Thinkers,

The Goo Goo Dolls released their newest album Magnetic last week!  I’ve been listening to them since I was in elementary school, actually probably even before that and I just don’t remember, since they formed the band before I was born.  I’m glad to say that the new songs feel current without losing the essence of The Goo Goo Dolls’ older work.  Lately we’ve seen a lot of pre-2000s groups trying to make comebacks.  For example, the boy bands New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees, and Boyz II Men are coming together for a reunion tour called The Package.  I’m not sure about the latter two, but based on my sister’s hatred for their new single, NKOTB, unlike The Goo Goo Dolls, haven’t managed to mix their old style with modern pop style without pissing off some of their original fans.

Similar to those boy bands that are joining forces, The Goo Goo Dolls are on tour with one of my other favorite bands also made famous in the 90s, Matchbox 20!  My editor and I will be among the screaming fans at that tour.  Or I’ll be screaming and she’ll smack me telling me to get ahold of myself.  Either way it promises to be an excellent concert.  Tickets to the tour are still available for a lot of their shows but we were lucky enough to snatch up tickets via Groupon a few months ago. (It seems like more and more concerts are going up on there, so it might be a good idea to check regularly for bands you like.) Although I’m sure that the bands will play plenty of their classics, I’m going to be listening to the new album on repeat till the concert so that I can sing along to any of the new songs they play too.

Hopefully you’re all enjoying the new album as much as I am.  “Rebel Beat” is the first song on the new cd and the first of these songs to get a music video.  Check it out, BTs!
