Robby's Lobby #117

BlogApril, 2016InRock.co.jp

Heyheyhey INROCKERS and Welcome once again to The Lobby! My sole chance to sit down and reflect upon what's gone on over the past month and your chance, if you so desire, to catch up on the entire goings on with me!

I've been in Buffalo most of the month, we've been finishing artwork, mixing and mastering material for the new Goo Goo Dolls album called ''Boxes'' which will be released in April/May of 2016! If you've been keeping up in the column you may know the record has been produced by Drew Pearson and Gregg Wattenberg between NY and LA over the past year. A design group called White Bicycle from our hometown is doing the artwork for the album cycle, they've won a couple of Grammys and done work for bands like Ani DiFranco, OAR and The Juliet Dagger over the years. We've always had a desire to have them do some work with Goo Goo Dolls and this year it worked out perfectly for all of us. I've included a picture of the album new artwork for you all to check out, it will look something like this once the finished version is completed. We decided to go with something that looked ''Classic'' to us for this release, and we think Brian and his team at White Bicycle did an amazing job.

Along with the album release we are preparing for a US Summer Tour which will see us taking our traveling freak show around the US and Canada through this summer with the bands Collective Soul and Tribe Society opening the show. We're actively working on stage sets, lighting and technical aspects onstage and off that are all part of making sure the summer goes smoothly. We'll have a European trip planned for the fall and continuing with more touring into 2017 in support of the new release ''Boxes''.

This month at my studio Justin Rose and I finished mixing the new EP by Tokyo's MOLICE for release later this Spring on Good Charamel Records and we are also busily preparing for the April release of Osaka's Shonen Knife's new album ''Adventure'' in N. America. Shonen Knife will be returning to The US for touring this fall as well, we look forward to bringing all of these fine bands and their music back to the US for people to enjoy.

We also had a team of composers and engineers assembled to score and mix a 7 minute animated short at GCR Audio this month, a science fiction trailer for a series of books they are making into animated films called The Magnificent Raiders by a science fiction writer named Dante DeAnthony. We've scored and mixed some movies in the past at GCR, but never had a chance to work on a science fiction film. It was so much fun, no limitations by reality, no preconceived notions of what anything should sound like, it was our own world to create as we saw fit. We look forward to doing more of this sort of thing in the future, it's so different from what I am used to doing, but it really is exciting to see come together.

OK ノ. What's on the horizon next month? A Goo Goo Dolls listening party in LA, shooting a promo music video, beginning band rehearsals and full concert production rehearsals soon and beginning press and radio for the ''Boxes'' promotion. lots and lots going on, and I'll do my best to bring you along with us through all of it!

Be happy, be safe and have a great month!
Peace
Robby
