The Goo Goo Dolls packed the Meyer Theatre in Green Bay, Wis., for an evening of acoustic music on April 27. This tour is a drastic departure from their status quo as it's being staged in intimate venues, stripped of their electric guitars and performed in a "VH1 Story Tellers" setting. The concept follows on the heels of their most recent tour in support of "Magnetic."

Dubbed "The Otis Midnight Sessions," the tour offers a peek inside the mind of frontman Johnny Rzeznik as he tells stories and waxes poetic (and not-so-poetic) on topics that ranged from musical inspiration to life with his siblings. The show began with Rzeznik taking his place on a stool that was perched near the front of the stage. He addressed the crowd and began to perform "Sympathy" from 2002's "Gutterflower" on acoustic guitar.

Rzeznik proclaimed, "Maybe if you cheer loud enough, Robby will come to work." Bassist Robby Takac took his place on another stool in his customary stage left position, for "Two Days in February." The remainder of the Goo Goo Dolls touring band soon joined in and the evening was in full swing.

It was apparent from the get-go that the evening would be lighthearted. Rzeznik jokingly asked, "Do they serve beer in here? Well, you better get on that s--- cause this is not going to work out between us unless you guys, like, step it up a little." He quickly had two fans handing him a beer from either side of the stage.

Most fans remained seated for the show, but "Slide" and later "Iris" got fans onto their feet. Takac had difficulty sitting in place when it was his turn at the mic. He performed "Already There" and he nearly bounced himself off his stool. The same was true when he performed "Bringing on the Light" and "Happiest of Days" later in the set.

Opening act River Runs North brought their skills to the Goo's set as well, performing on violin for "We Are the Normal." They came and went throughout the night, adding additional depth of other songs. The Goo saved some of their biggest hits to close out their show, closing out their set with "Broadway," "Acoustic #3" and "Iris." They returned to play "Become" as their sole encore.

The Goo Goo Dolls will embark on a co-headline tour with Daughtry this summer. It will commence on June 12 at Toyota Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, Conn., and run through August 23 when it concludes in Essex Junction, Vt., at the Champlain Valley Exposition. The jaunt made Rolling Stones magazine's "Summer 2014's 40 Hottest Tours list."
