Goo Goo Dolls celebrate love and life on Magnetic through Warner Bros Records. Lyrically, the message is  positive. They explore true love, the proposal, find a little happiness, hope, second chance at love on his appealing 10th studio release.

The optimistic vibe is constant from beginning to end . People can easily relate to all those lyrics in an inspiring collection of pop/rock songs dedicated to accompanying you in your daily life. Furthermore, this is beautifully written, both heartfelt, poetic and touching “… This is when I say to you, I’ll be there, you’re not alone..” in When the World Breaks Your Heart. My favorite lyrics are without hesitation in the very romantic track, Come to me which is a proposal to someone “Come to me my sweetest friend , Can you feel my heart again , I’ll take you back where you belong And this will be our favorite song… “ Who can resist to these words ?

Musically, Magnetic is solid. Musically, it is a modern version of their initial sound both more textured and fresher. The production is more uplifting. They reinvent themselves. Rebel Beat was a good glimpse of what you can expect from the rest of the album. It is just slightly different while staying true with themselves. The band expands their original trademark incorporating some electronic elements (More of you), new string arrangements by Paul Buckmaster (who worked with Elton John) in When The World breaks your heart. Rich synthesizer textures turn the songs into something totally fresh, for example,  in the upbeat Last Hot Night. More of you is reminiscent of anthemic Rebel Beat. The music is extremely upbeat. You can’t help but sing along. Same feelings in Slow It down which reminds me a little bit of Train. Caught in the storm has a poppy edge.

All in all, Magnetic is a fresh version of their previous works. They added a little amount of new sounds, efficient and appealing. Recommended for long-time fans.
