Utahns just might go “goo goo” over an outdoor concert coming to Park City.

On Aug. 18, The Goo Goo Dolls will amplify Deer Valley Resort’s Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater with special guests Michelle Branch and Parachute. The Grammy-nominated alternative rock band will perform from its collection of 14 top 10 singles, including popular hits such as “Iris,” Slide” and “Name.” Tickets are $35 for lawn seating and may be purchased by calling 435-655-3114 or online at ecclescenter.org. Gates open 90 minutes before the show and free parking is available to the public adjacent to the venue. Guests are welcome to bring coolers of food and drinks or to enjoy tasty treats at concession stands. Ticket holders may also bring chairs with a nine-inch height restriction enforced.

“They are all three very separate, distinct acts that complement one another, Parachute being the youngest and the newest band out of the three, Michelle Branch being a favorite with a lot of folks,” said Terri Orr, the executive director of  Park City’s Performing Arts Foundation.

The Goo Goo Dolls gained young fans in their early years and kept them while adding a new generation of followers with recent albums.

“I liked to listen to their songs growing up in junior high and high school and when I listen to them now it brings back good memories,” said Jeff Sorensen, a BYU graduate in economics and math. “I like how they’re still making music. I’ve heard their new songs and I like the fact that they didn’t fade away like other bands.”

Jacob Hansen, a Provo resident majoring in American Studies, first heard The Goo Goo Dolls’ songs on the radio in high school and then happened upon a CD at a garage sale.

“Their whole album totally rocked and I can really appreciate a band that puts out a good album,” he said. “It shows well roundness. They don’t just have a couple songs for the radio and then the rest of the album is filler. It was just a solid album and I’ve liked them since then.”

Hansen said he is interested in attending the concert because of his familiarity with The Goo Goo Dolls lyrics and their acoustic abilities.

“People should go to this concert because some bands you can’t sing along to, like super high singer Justin Timberlake,” he said. “Part of the fun of the concert is singing along and the Goo Goo Dolls are easy to sing along to because he sings in a good range.”
