Gator Growl band choice makes sense

Gator Growl got it right this time.

Choosing The Goo Goo Dolls was a wise decision for the largest student-run pep rally in the nation. Together with the skits and usual orange and blue lovefest, we think this band's music will get the crowd goin'.

We know those in charge have made a concerted effort to try to please everyone - which is not an easy task considering this is a giant school with tons of undergrads and a huge, dedicated alumni base that loves coming home for Homecoming.

We think this hits the spot.

They aren't some graying, your-dad-thinks-they're-really-rad-group (see Miller, Steve), and they aren't a motley crew of stand-up comics that either incite a couple of belly laughs or totally fall flat.

At least The Goo Goo Dolls give you something to remember from those beloved 1990s, when good alternative music went mainstream and middle-of-the-road rock blasted out of that Walkman of yours.

And older folks can dig The Goo Goo Dolls, too.

Seriously. We think most people will be glad to hear those chiming notes from the beginning of "Slide," or the opening lines of "Iris" - and don't act like you don't remember that sappy-ass song from that awful Nicholas Cage tearjerker, "City of Angels."

We're hopeful the comedy act is another good choice.

Don't let us down, Gator Growl.
