Last week on Friday Goo Goo Dolls drummer Mike Malinin tweeted he "got some news today", thanking the fans for their support and wishing the band "best of luck & happy travels". It was soon clear that Mike left the band.

His departure came unexpected to fans. He was on paternity leave, but would return for the New Years Eve concert in Los Angeles tomorrow. Mike joined the band in January '95 and performed with them for the first time two weeks later.

GooGooFans would like to thank Mike for everything he has done for the band and fans over the last 19 years. We wish Mike all the best wherever his career will take him.

The official statement by the band can be read on googoodolls.com.
