Round Hill Music has acquired the catalog of Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and Goo Goo Dolls frontman Johnny Rzeznik.

Formed in Buffalo, NY in 1986 by Rzeznik and Robby Takac, Goo Goo Dolls have sold 12 million records worldwide.

MBW understands that the acquisition was an eight-figure deal.

Goo Goo Dolls have received four Grammy Award nominations and achieved 14 No.1 and Top 10 hits at Hot AC.

Their music has been covered by everyone from Beyoncé to Taylor Swift and Leona Lewis.

Among the group’s hits, one of their most popular, Iris, held onto the No.1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for 18 straight weeks.

Among his many accolades, Rzeznik received the prestigious Hal David Starlight Award in 2008, created to recognize a composer in the early years of his or her career that has already made a lasting impact.

Following a sold-out 2018 twentieth anniversary tour in celebration of sixth studio album Dizzy Up The Girl, Goo Goo Dolls released their twelfth full-length album, Miracle Pill, in September, 2019 via Warner Records and led by the single and title track Miracle Pill.

Round Hill CEO Josh Gruss said: “The indelible music of The Goo Dolls defined the late 90’s in the U.S. and continues to dominate the airwaves here today.

“The durability of their music is a testament to how fantastic these songs are and Round Hill is so grateful to steward them into the future.”

Founded by Josh Gruss along with Richard Rowe and Neil Gillis in 2012, Round Hill initially raised more than $200m in initial private equity commitments.

The New York-based company has since acquired the rights to songs recorded by the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, Bruno Mars and Tim McGraw – as well as the master catalogs of The Offspring and the first four Bush albums (the latter in partnership with Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale).

Round Hill acquired independent publisher Carlin Music in January 2018 and later that month confirmed that it had raised an additional $263m in a second funding round, taking its then-life time investment to almost half a billion dollars.

Some of Round Hill and Zync’s current artists, writers and producers include Valerie Broussard, Des Rocs, Morgan Taylor Reid, Tim Myers, Cobi, Gramatik, Shawn Hook, TT the Artist, Nick Waterhouse, Confidence Man, Katie Pruitt, Ryan Shaw, Langhorne Slim and bands such as American Authors, YONAKA, SHEL, BONES UK, Lettuce, Florida Georgia Line, Royal Teeth and Band of Skulls.

In addition, Round Hill and Zync represent a larger roster of talent for sync including ODESZA, Alabama Shakes, Rezz, Vulfpeck, Sleigh Bells, Jim James, Sofi Tukker, Toro Y Moi, VHS Collection, Unkle, Marc Broussard, Thutmose, Spiritualized, Sleater-Kinney, Jai Wolf, Estelle, Jarina De Marco, Black Lips and Bassnectar.
