Robby's Lobby #96

BlogDecember, 2013Inrock.co.jp

Heyheyhey And welcome to The Lobby for this month, we've been gathering here at our INROCK meeting place for many, many years now, and I thank you for all of your support over the years! I'm currently in the UK touring with the band doing 10 dates over here in support of our latest Magnetic album.

Last we spoke I was on the set of our latest promotional video for the song ''Come To Me'' which we shot in Los Angeles in the brush covered hills outside the city. The ''Come to Me'' PV was produced by director Gus Black, and the video debuts this week on VH1 here in the US. Check out googoodolls.com for a look at some stills from the shoot as well as links to the video (which should be up by the time you are reading this). This is one of my favorite songs on the new album and it is starting to get added to many stations across the US and Europe since it's release as a single a few weeks ago.

We went from the Los Angeles video shoot and took a short flight to Las Vegas for an a multi band show in Desert Breeze park with Parachute, Walk off The Earth, Plain White T's, Matt Natahanson, Better Than Ezra, One Republic and GGDS. The very next day many of the bands from that show made their way to San Francisco for a free daytime show in Golden Gate Park! It's an annual festival called Now and Zen which is in it's fifteenth year, this was our 2nd visit to perform at the event. It really is an amazing park and it's so great they get to use the space for the show year after year.

And I actually made it home to Buffalo for a few days and had an amazing time hanging with my wife and daughter for a couple of weeks and then headed back out to do another show in North Carolina for the BOA 500 NASCAR auto race. Our singer John got to ride in the pace car that starts the race and we all hung around in the pit area checking out the cars and the culture that surrounds the NASCAR circuit. They told us that there was going to be 200,000 people there to see the race, it's so unbelievably huge, bleachers as far as the eye can see in both directions, just crazy.

We left directly from a great show in North Carolina directly to the UK to begin the tour of the Academy venues that we have grown to love so much over the years. The UK crowds are always so alive, singing and rocking like they are part of the show, it really is pretty awesome. We've played Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester, Norwich and Glasgow over the past week; playing in Norwich tonight, tomorrow in Birmingham and a big sold out show in London at the Hammersmith Apollo to close out the tour before we head back to the states for a little time off with my family.

The reunited 80's new wave band ''Flesh for LuLu'' has been opening the shows over here in the UK, we covered one of their songs ''Postcards from Paradise'' on a deluxe version of our last album ''Something for the Rest of Us'' and we had toured with a different band they put together called ''Gigantic'' on a tour of the US with the band Bush in 1995 so it was nice to see them again and say hello after all of these years! They've been great and the crowds have loved them as well.

Hope all is well with you and I'll be back next month with some more to tell you, thanks so much for stopping in to say hi, and I'll be in Japan in January for another visit (and maybe a few dozen bowls of curry!) in January of 2014, have a great day and we'll talk soon!

Peace
Robby
