Hey Hey INROCKERS.....

Hope my In Rock friends have been enjoying their summer in Japan, staying cool and having a great time since we spoke last! We've been on a long, long tour with Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20 for the last 2 months, 46 shows in total in a little over 60 days, a pretty busy schedule. We have done so many different types of show in the past few weeks, acoustic shows in radio stations and boardrooms, shows at TV studios, shows in Theatres, Gymnasiums, Arenas and Amphitheaters for fired up crowds all over North America.

Every day's a little different, but at the same time every day is eerily the same. I was thinking about where I was going to go with this month's column and I thought it might be cool to walk you all through a day on tour with the Goo Goo Dolls so you can get an idea of what we do each and every day while we're out here making music on this summer tour. So. Here we go.

Around 9AM I wake up in my bed in a random hotel, I rub the sleep from my eyes and reach onto the table next to my bed to check the information printed on the phone so I can make sure I know what city I've just woken up in! After I'm convinced I know where I've woken up, I generally grab some breakfast, take a walk for some early morning exercise and then have some personal time to do the type of things normal civilians do, you know, pay some bills, and get some of the non-GGD related stuff I do every day out of the way before we get busy. Around noon we generally do some phone interviews from our hotel room with Press and Radio, these usually last about 2 hours and are done to promote upcoming shows on the tour.

At 3PM the band meets up in the Lobby of the hotel, checks out and make our way to the tour bus, which is running and waiting for us outside the front doors. We get our luggage on the bus and board the bus for the venue. We generally discuss the songs we will perform that evening on the drive to the show.

When the bus arrives at the venue, we prepare for a 430PM Soundcheck Party w/ Radio Station winners, the soundcheck party is a short performance in which we invite people into the venue before the doors open to the public. We do a few songs, meet the station's winners and then take photos.

At 5PM it's definitely time for dinner in catering with the rest of the bands and crew before yet another Meet and Greet at 6:30 where we are once again taking photos and hanging with up to 50 VIPs, contest winners and guests.

After the evening meet and greet we begin to prepare for the show as the band members do their respective Vocal Warm ups and pre show rituals as we prepare for the show. At 8PM we begin the 70 Minute Rock Show and make the music happen for another evening!

Once we finish the show we go back to the dressing room towel off and clean up to meet up with our personal guests backstage before boarding the bus at 10:30 to make our way to the next city for another show the next day. At about 3 am we arrive at the next hotel, we go to bed, wake up at 9 am and do it all over again!

It's a tough life sometimes, but an amazing one when you stop to realize you get to share your music with thousands of fans across the world, I'm pretty lucky to be this busy after making music for over 25 years with my band. wow, I just made myself kind of tired..Hope you all enjoyed a walk through a fairly typical day on tour with The Goo Goo Dolls and I hope to see you next month right here in the Lobby !

Peace Robby
