Hey Hey In Rockers !!!! Thanks for taking the time to stop in and
check in on the ongoing story I've been telling for over 7 years here in
In Rock magazine! Much has changed and many things have happened over
the years and my latest column spoke of the birth of my daughter Hana
which may have been the biggest and most intense change in my life to
date. She's starting to recognize her papa and mama's voices and faces
now, it's maybe the coolest thing I've ever experienced. Weユve been
spending an awful lot of time at home taking care of our new little girl
(and brushing up on my Japanese with her mommy ), but I've still
managed to keep my musical and artistic endeavors rolling through this
busy time in my life! So here's a brief rundown..
Goo Goo Dolls played a Mardis Gras Celebration show in
Universal Studios in Florida, a huge show, almost 10,000 people packed
into the City Walk for a great show. Other acts performing at this
annual event were Plain White Tees, Big Time Rush, Kelly Clarkson, Sugar
Ray, B.O.B., Cyndi Lauper and many others, a pretty diverse lineup and a
great Mardi Gras bash complete with a huge parade, ハbead tossing and of
course alcohol as far as the eye can see ! We'll be heading to Atlantic
City, NJ and Las Vegas for some shows next month as we prepare to enter
the studio to begin work on our 10th studio album this summer!
I also spent some time in my GCR Audio studios working with a
few bands, The Adams Eberwein Band from New Jersey as well as an doing a
bit more work and artist called I Am Angelo. We're also working on a
live Shonen Knife (Osaka) ''Osaka Ramones'' DVD which will be out this
summer for their second North American tour in less than a year! I'm
producing tracks for these bands in out ''down time'' (as if there is
actually any down time w/ a new baby in the house) and will return to
work with GGDs later next month.
My Good Charamel Records label is readying a new series of
releases including he second in the I LOVE J ROCK series of Japanese
Rock collection, a compilation featuring bands to be released through
Good Charamel Records in 2012 including amazing Japanese bands, the
legendary Shonen Knife, TsuShiMaMiRe, MOLICE, LAZYgunsBRISKY (who
announced their disbanding this month on their official website) and we
welcome newcomers Tricot (Kyoto) to the Good Charamel roster . The
records begin being released weekly on April 10th here in North America !
I also spent some time in New York City last month setting up
an art show for a dear friend of ours from Buffalo who passed away about
5 years ago named Mark Freeland. His partner Carla and I set up 2 shows
at a place called the Dorian Gray gallery in the East Village as well
as another instillation at an art exhibition called the SCOPE show
featuring artists and galleries all over the world joined in a large
white tent on the West Side Highway. It was a great time and I always
get to spend a few minutes at Go Go Curry when I visit NYC, and the In
Rock readers know how about my love affair with Japanese Curry !!
Well, I think the baby is hungry and her father's getting
hungry too with all this talk of curry, so I will leave you this month
wishing good thoughts for those still affected by the Earthquake /
Tsunami from one year ago. We see the struggles people are still going
through in the affected areas on the news and our hearts go out to all
of you.
Thanks for stopping into the lobby and please join us online at
robbyslobby.com for more updates, commentary, a few baby pictures and
some general silliness on a daily basis !
All the best. . .
Peace,
Robby
