Robby's Lobby #103

BlogJuly, 2014Inrock.co.jp

Heyheyhey and Welcome to Robby's Lobby here amongst the pages of the mighty InRock magazine, I've been doing this column for nearly 9 years no and I'm amazed that month after month when I sit down to continue our conversation again how much goes on in my life every 4 weeks.

Goo Goo Dolls finished up the "Otis Midnight Sessions" acoustic tour with a few more shows throughout the midwest and we said goodbye to our OMS guest musicians "Run River North", the film crew and for now the acoustic sets until another time. As I mentioned in the last post we will be releasing some sort of film documenting the OMS shows as well as taking a stroll through our hoetown of Buffalo, NY and of course 28 years of GGDS memories. Stay tuned for details on the release of the documentary by checking in regularly at googoodolls.com!

At the end of the OMS tour we did a few electric shows, one being one of our favorite events Sunfest in West Palm Beach, Florida. We performed with the band Young the Giant opening the show to thousands of people having a great time in a park on the inter coastal waterway. And a crazy thing happened, we finished the show and someone made us an offer to move the entire show down the road a few miles to play a birthday party in someones backyard the next evening. That doesn't happen often, actually, it never happens! But this time it all worked out and we were playing GGDs songs in at a backyard party in Florida...and that's how it goes sometimes! We also did a show in Sacramento California with Mary Lambert (Who sang on and wrote Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' hit song "Same Love") during a nigh time 5k running race with all of the participants wearing glowing accessories. The crowd looked amazing glowing in front of us as we played a full set for an arena full of excitedハfans and runners.

So aside from the occasional weekend gig we've had the last few weeks off to gather out thoughts for the Summer's GGDS, Daughtry, Plain White Tees summer concert tour. We begin pre-production rehearsals between LA and Connecticut (home of the sacred PEZ museum) next month and then it's time for a long, long N. American Summer tour!

While home I got to do a few fun things as well, I attended the 1st Annual Buffalo, NY Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Garden in a beautiful park here in town. My Music is Art organization helped program acoustic artists performing around the grounds of the park. An organization called ''The Friends of the Japanese Garden'' here in town set up nice teac ceremony, there was kite flying, dancers, boat rides and a parade as well which led to the planting of new Sakura trees to join the already growing trees donated by the people of Kanazawa, Japan, which is the sister city of Buffalo, New York.

And as always, im my efforts to seek out more Japanese culture in the North Eastern US, my wife and I headed to The Bug Jar in Rochester, NY to see the Japanese Art Punk band Peelander Z play their zany super hero comic rock to a packed club of charged up punk rockers. Their singer (Yellow) always invites me up on stage to play with them when we go to see them play, so I joined them onstage for their last number to add to the mayhem, I've included a pic for you all to see from the show!

And lastly with the release of 3 new exciting albums from Japan on my Good Charamel Records label, Shonen Knife ''Overdrive'', Pinky Doodle Poodle's debut release and MOLICE's new album ''Resonance Love'' we are now preparing for Shonen Knife and Pinky Doodle Poodle performances here in the US including PDPs performance at the J Pop Summit in San Francisco and Shonen Knife's appearance at The Music is Art Festival here in Buffalo. Pinky Doodle Poodle will also be recording a new album for release worldwide here in Buffalo at my GCR Audio studios! It's always busy, but we sure love promoting Japanese music here in the United States!

OK, that's it for this month! I'll be back next month in full swing with the GGDs Summer tour and more stay tuned and check out RobbysLobby.com for more information on everything I've been chatting to you all about for the past 103 editions!

All the best, and talk soon

Peace

Robby
