The Matchbox Twenty and the Goo Goo Dolls duel concert tour pulled in huge numbers on Sunday, June 30 at the Cincinnati Riverbend Music Center. The Cincinnati Pop Culture Examiner was on the scene braving the torrential rains along with the thousands of other fans, who were not at all disappointed with the show.

Female performer Kate Earl was the opening act for the bands, despite being under the weather her vocals were strong, and the crowd loved her music and charming stage presence.

The Goo Goo Dolls took the stage following Earl, opening with “Last Hot Night in America.” The Goo Goo Dolls played fan favorites that included "Black Balloon," "Iris," "Slide," and "Broadway," to name a few along with the more recent hits such as "Come to Me," and "Rebel Beat."

There was a slight intermission between the Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox Twenty's performances that gave the road crew time to switch the equipment and stage props, and the fans time to get a drink between shows.

Matchbox Twenty engaged fans from the start with their killer set list that had all fans dancing and singing along the entire show. Matchbox started off with a new tune from their newly released "North" album,"Parade."

The band performed "She's So Mean," "I Will" and "Radio" from their fifth studio album, but not without mixing in the hits from the past that included,"Bent," Disease," "3 A.M.," "Real World," "Long Day," and "Bright Lights," which feature lead singer Rob Thomas on the piano.

Matchbox finished out the show with a a three song encore that included "Back 2 Good," "Our Song," and the song that started it all for the band "Push."

The Matchbox Twenty/Goo Goo Dolls tour picks up again on July 6 at the Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, MI.
