New York rockers Goo Goo Dolls have teased fans by talking to Billboard about their up-coming new album.

The new songs will be “very uptempo”, according to guitarist/vocalist John Rzeznik. Last.fm Trends looks back at the career of a band that started way back in 1986.

It wasn’t long ago that Goo Goo Dolls released their last album, with Something For The Rest Of Us coming just over a year ago in 2010. Whilst the album sparked a huge increase in weekly scrobbles, the hype didn’t last too long.

The album took the band from around 70,000 scrobbles a week to well above 100,000 scrobbles but fans didn’t choose to keep up the momentum, taking the band quickly back to where they were before.

With that said, the band still enjoy a great amount of Last.fm activity. Their classic track “Iris” still rakes in a huge amount of scrobbles considering it was released in 1998, with 10,024 people listening to it last week.

It’s hard to say whether Goo Goo Dolls will release anything quite as popular as “Iris” again but fans will surely be confident that the band can add another worthy album to their glittering career.
