Goo Goo Dolls' Tour Demands: Peanut Butter, Popcorn, but No Pastry Chefs

A key component of any tour is the "rider" -- the list of required backstage stuff that a band and their team simply can't hit the road without.  Goo Goo Dolls, who are currently in the middle of a summer tour in support of their album Boxes, say their rider's pretty simple, but they can't say the same about some of the bands they've toured with in the past.

Since Goo Goo Dolls have been around for 30 years, we figured they must've toured with some bands who were total divas and demanded ridiculous things on the road, right?  "Yeah, all of 'em. All of 'em!" laughs singer Johnny Rzeznik.

"It's ridiculous, it's such a waste, you know? I mean...they shall remain nameless, but if you have to have your own pastry chef on tour with you, that's a bit excessive," he snarks.

As for his band, Johnny and bass player Robby Takac says their rider hasn't changed much in the past 30 years -- except for the fact that they've quit drinking.

"It really hasn't. I mean, there's no booze on it," notes Johnny.  Robby laughs, "Yeah...when we started, it was all alcohol. Now there's no alcohol, that's pretty much the difference!"

"Our rider literally is, like, about a hundred bucks worth of stuff, you know?" Johnny brags. "It's just like water, some peanut butter, some fruit, some popcorn. That's really it."

Goo Goo Dolls' U.S. tour will wrap up in September with two nights at the Kaaboo Del Mar Festival in Del Mar, California.  After that, they'll head overseas in October for some U.K. dates.
