Grammy-nominated American band Goo Goo Dolls will perform the pregame show at the NFL’s Pepsi Max International Series game at Wembley Stadium on Sunday October 23.

The band, whose biggest hit ‘Iris’ this month reached number one on the UK iTunes chart and number three in the UK singles chart 13 years after its original release, will perform prior to the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicking off in the fifth competitive regular-season NFL game to be played in London.

Even before its recent resurgence, ‘Iris’ was one of the most successful UK chart tracks in history, having spent 42 weeks in the top 100 during 1998-99. In the US, the song received three Grammy nominations and is among the band’s 14 top-10 singles. Their ‘Greatest Hits’ album has also recently returned to the UK charts.

NFLUK Managing Director Alistair Kirkwood said: “We are thrilled to have a band with the track record of Goo Goo Dolls performing at Wembley. Not only do they have an established reputation and fan base, but their recent chart success shows how current they remain. We are looking forward to them putting on a great show for our fans.”

Hailing from Buffalo, New York, Goo Goo Dolls consist of lead singer/guitarist Johnny Rzeznik, bassist Robby Takac and drummer Mike Malinin. “We're really excited about bringing American music and football to the UK,” said Rzeznik. “This is gonna be a blast.”

The band’s ninth studio album, ‘Something For The Rest Of Us’, was released in August 2010, debuting at number seven on the Billboard Top 200.  The album was followed by a sold-out UK tour, while two singles taken from the album, ‘Home’ and ‘Not Broken’, made the A-list on Radio 2.
