Goo Goo Dolls Singer Talks 2013 Highlights, Why He'd Rather Work on New Year's Eve

The Goo Goo Dolls have had a busy year, thanks to the release of a new album, Magnetic, and a lengthy tour with Matchbox Twenty.  On top of all that, lead singer Johnny Rzeznik married his long-time girlfriend in July.  All those things are among the moments that Johnny cites as his personal highlights of 2013.

"Getting married -- I would have to say that was the biggest highlight," he tells ABC News Radio. "And the release of the album.  Then, the summer tour we did with Matchbox was just phenomenal. It was huge. It was amazing. It was, like, the best summer we'd ever had."

"It's nice to be able to tour at that really high level with another band that's just so great, and everybody actually gets along," he adds.  They got along so well that in early December, the Goo Goo Dolls reunited with Rob Thomas and the guys for Matchbox Twenty's first-ever fan cruise.

2014 will bring more touring for the band; they start a Canadian tour in early February.  But they're going to mark the end of 2013 with a big New Year's Eve show at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California Tuesday night, and Johnny says he'll be glad to be back on stage performing for fans, after taking last New Year's off.

"You know, last year was the first year in -- I think it was 18 years -- that we just said, 'Nah, we're gonna stay home this year,'" Johnny recalls. "And we were all in bed by, like, 11.  But I would rather work because I'm not a big New Year's guy. It's amateur night. You might as well go to work or stay home."

So what sort of New Year's resolutions will Johnny have for himself when midnight strikes?  Well, none. He says he "never" makes New Year's resolutions.  He laughs, "Why disappoint myself on a whole other level?"
