Bassist Robby Takac tells Alternative Addiction The Goo Goo Dolls are giving fans a preview of what their next album will sound like by playing a number of new songs on their current summer tour.

“We are playing songs in these sets that aren’t even out on a record yet,” said Takac.  “We discovered when we put our last record out that people were singing along to songs off our album before it even came out.”

So instead of hiding their new music from fans, they decided to utilize the internet to spread their music.

“We sort of learned that is something you can do now, that’s the way the world works,” Takac explained.  “After 5 or 6 gigs a good amount of the fans know the songs you are playing before it even comes out on a record.  That’s one of the exciting parts about the internet and its effect on music and your ability to reach out to fans.”

While Takac says the band is happy with the response from fans towards the music, he says that it’s a huge change in the band’s mindset in promoting their music.

“It used to be never in a million years would we have thought about playing a song that wasn’t on a record before because you would be afraid of it getting out there.  Now, you are begging for it to get out there.”
