Goo Goo Dolls' Longevity Is Down To Distance
Interview • July 22, 2011 • Contactmusic
Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik is
convinced the secret to the group's longevity lies in the bandmates'
refusal to hang out with each other when they're not working.
The group has been rocking out since forming in 1986 and the trio has
managed to avoid the messy break ups that have plagued other bands from
the same era.
The Goo Goo Dolls drew in the crowds on Friday morning (22Jul11) when
they performed a free show at New York's famous Central Park for
breakfast programme Good Morning America, and Rzeznik reveals the key to
their success is distance.
He says, "In that period of time ('80s), it seems we're the only ones
left. You move to three different cities, you don't talk to each other
when you're not working and, you know, that keeps us together."
And the 45-year-old singer admits he still gets a buzz out of
performing live: "The touring part is the most important part because
this is something you can't get on the internet or any place else...
People still like to come out and see a live show."
