(12/22/99, 10 a.m. ET) - The Goo Goo Dolls are currently making their way back home to Buffalo, N.Y. to celebrate Christmas--and yes, they have to fly. LAUNCH asked singer Johnny Rzeznik if he's got any special thoughts on his ordeal and the plane crash that happened Sunday (Dec. 19) in Italy (LAUNCH, 12/20).

"Yeah, I'm pretty glad to be here," Rzeznik said. "Yep, pretty glad to be here. But there's just a lot of questions that are starting to nag in my brain. Why would someone try to land in something like that? Who was the guy on the ground that told him he could land in that? Why didn't anybody know we were coming in? That's the real one that I want to know."

He added that the reality of the situation is still setting in. "I'm sure that in three days it's really gonna get to me. Like it's gonna sink in and I'm going to go, 'Oh man,' but here we are. I swear to God, somebody, something is watching out for us, because we walked away without a major incident."

When asked if the crash would deter him from doing a USO tour in the future, Rzeznik said, "No, I'll definitely do it again. I've got nothing against the Navy. I just thought that pilot was irresponsible, and he endangered a lot of people's lives. I'm sure some people would say, 'No he saved everybody's life on that plane,' but my point is, we shouldn't have been put in a situation like that in the first place," he noted, referring to the pilot's decision to land in a severe thunderstorm.

The Goo Goo Dolls are not exactly eager to get in a plane right now, which led them to cancel their appearance on MTV's "Fly2K" promotion (LAUNCH, 12/21). "I'm going to play in New York, but we canceled us being on the flight from London to New York, because I'm just not into flying right now unless I absolutely have to. And Tom Calderone over at MTV was cool about it. He was like, 'Well, you know, you guys were just in a plane crash.'"
