Goo Goo Dolls and Daughtry are teaming up for an extensive joint tour that gets underway Thursday night in Wallingford, Connecticut, and Goos frontman Johnny Rzeznik says the double bill guarantees fans a great night of music.

"I am excited about it. We're all fans of Chris' and we're looking forward to doing, like, a big rock show," Johnny tells ABC News Radio.  "That's all I can say about it. It's going to be a big huge rock show. It's going to be a great summer night."  Plain White T's are also on the bill, adding to the strong collection of hits you'll hear every night from all three acts.

Johnny says there are a lot of "musical similarities" between his band and Daughtry, making for what he calls "a great pairing" -- one that's been a long time coming.  "I'm glad we finally get a chance to do it because we've been trying to set something up to play with Daughtry for a while," he explains.  In fact, he says he's surprised that he and Chris Daughtry have never ended up songwriting together at some point over the years.

"He's a busy person and so am I," laughs Johnny.  "Hopefully we'll get some time to do something like that this summer, because I think he's great. He's a real talent, and he really, really, redefined himself as, like, a staple rock musician."

As for whether fans can expect to see the Goo Goo Dolls, Daughtry and the Plain White T's all teaming up for some sort of monster jam at some point during the night, Johnny tells ABC News Radio, "Yeah, I think I'd have to ask the other bands...I would love to do something like that. I'm very into things like that, but you just see how it goes."

The tour runs through the end of August, but Johnny says he's made sure that he gets one particular day off: July 26.  Last year, when the band was on tour with Matchbox Twenty, he took a few days off to marry his longtime girlfriend, Melina Gallo, but then went right back on the road.  This year, he'll be in the thick of the tour when July 26 rolls around, but Johnny says he doesn't plan to miss celebrating his first wedding anniversary this year.

He tells ABC News Radio, "I made sure when I was scheduling that I'd have my anniversary off and I can be in Los Angeles. So that's what I'm doing."

The tour will serve to promote the latest albums from Daughtry and the Goo Goo Dolls: Baptized and Magnetic, respectively.  Coincidentally, both bands' drummers exited this year, but they've of course been replaced for this tour.
