Exclusive! Goo Goo Dolls Talk Success and New Album!

The Goo Goo Dolls were inducted into the Guitar Center’s “Rockwalk” yesterday, May 7, 2013.

Located in front of the Guitar Center in Hollywood, the Rockwalk features the hand prints of legendary performers and just to name a few: Eric Clapton, Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder, Queen, and Aerosmith. Other artists with their hand prints on the Rockwalk that were present at the Goo Goo Dolls’ induction were Jimmy Page, Carlos Santana, and BB King.

The Goo Goo Dolls was formed in 1986 in Buffalo, New York with John Rzeznik, Robby Takac, and Mike Malinin. The Goo Goo Dolls is the first band ever to not wear shoes on stage, the first band to have 14 top 10 Radio hits, and is considered one of the most played bands on the radio ever with their well known hits: “Iris,” “Name,” and “Slide.”

After two decades and nine albums later the band has not only grown in popularity but their music has come a long way since their days of being punk rockers.

“When we started with Rob (Rob Cavallo, former producer) we were kids and “shiny” new people, things are a little edgy now… Just to be able to do something like this and never, necessarily been the “biggest band in the world.”

The Goo Goo Dolls have indeed evolved from scruffy punks to a polished rock band. They used to be inspired by other musical influences when they started out but it’s safe to say today that the Goo Goo Dolls are now musical influences.

“20 years older – things change – as we grow up, we start playing music from our hearts and then our perspective of life changes.”

The Goo Goo Dolls also talk about their 10th album, “Magnetic” which is more “upbeat” than what they are used to.

On their album “Magnetic” the band says it is:

“Thematic of where we are in our lives.”

They have come a long way. From angry young men who just wanted to rock out to a Grammy-nominated and Billboard chart-topping rock band. The punk rockers are now mainstream superstars with wives and children, the Goo Goo Dolls are still finding success and longevity in the music industry today with the help of Robby’s positive attitude and Mike’s fearless perspective of life in the band.

“Rebel Beat” is the first single to be released from the Goo Goo Dolls “Magnetic”

The Goo Goo Dolls are having a promotional tour for their album “Magnetic” with Matchbox Twenty, this June!

The Goo Goo Dolls “Magnetic” is set to release on June 11, 2013.
